What does PK mean? Ruskaya Kontrola? A very interesting gun. With kind regards, Jani

Um, I'd guess they would have used Cyrillic characters for Russkaya Kontrola?
Cheers,

If the Cashmore is not self cocking, ala Bentley patent, then it may not be any special patent, but a gun with odd hammers that would be more normal with different hammers.

Raimey, me to. When I went to school (a very long time ago, so my recollection is not guaranteed), Cyrillic P was R, and K was K. But admittedly there are various kinds of Cyrillic alphabet, and I am no expert by any means.
Cheers, Jani

Gentlemen! I bought this gun in France, so I think it is not Russian letters P and K, it is Latin letters. Russian P - Latin R. My opinion that they were proofed by Cashmore

The letters PK are huge, nothing an English Gentleman would adorn a gun with. Puskarna Kranj crossed my mind but in 1917 they were not in existance, yet. That is if 17 means 1917 (and 11 - November?). Maybe something French then.
With kind regards, Jani

I think that what you have is a hammerless gun with hammers. By that I mean that the gun appears to cock on opening as indicated by the cocking dogs on the knuckle of the action. The hammers then just become cocking indicators but can probably be used for de-cocking the action. The safety catch is not something usually associated with pure hammer guns. During this transitional period between hammer and hammerless actions coming in there were quite often features such as these as people were suspicious of a gun that could not be shown to be cocked or un-cocked. Unusual and interesting gun all the same. Note that it only proofed for black powder. It appears to possibly be pre 1875 with the proof marks. Lagopus.....

This is one of the transition guns between hammer and hammerless. I don't think it's a Cashmore patent, not too rare but not seen very often.
