She sounds like a wonderful person, and you were blessed to have her in your life. Terribly sorry for your loss. The loss of my Father, in 2009, drove home the point of how few hunting partners I had. I hadn't needed many when he was alive. I have more, now, but miss him just the same when I am loading up to go hunting.
Best, Ted

We never get over these losses---mothers and grandmothers are the roots of our families. We have memories as their spirit lives on. Immortality. My mother couldn't cook guts for a bear. She made no apologies; it was a family joke. She was an outdoors person through and through. When it wasn't raining she was in the woods, snaring rabbits, poaching trout or gardening. My nephew's first memory of her was coming across the field on snowshoes wearing a fur-rimmed Hudson's Bay parka with a rabbit in each hand. My only tangible evidence of her existence is her treasured camouflaged oars. Your memories will get you through, CHAZ. Condolences.

I haven't had a Grandmother for a long time, but I'll never forget the love both of mine bestowed on me as a child. Truly sorry to hear of your loss...Geo

Chaz, sorry for your loss!
I lost my grandmothers when very small, but I inherited through my mom cooking tips (like slightly browning flour in a dry pan before using it to thicken sauces) from my Belgian grandmother whom I would have liked to know better. They are really important in the lives of their grandchildren!

Sorry for your loss. Prayers to your family. Do remember her by thinking about memories like those you just shared. Few things would make her prouder. Grand moms are like that.

Hoof, I'm sorry for your loss. Your stories brought back memories of my own grandmother. I lived with her when I was in college, because she lived in the next town over. She would also cook anything I brought her, and my mother wouldn't cook anything but quail. I still remember my grandmother's rabbit salad (think chicken salad). Thanks for the memories. Mike

I know how you feel. I lost my last grandparent (grandmother on my mom's side) about 7 years ago. Next Friday, the 20th. we are burying my mother. She too was a "country girl" who took great pride in her children's achievements.
