I see IMR is bringing our several new powders. IMR; Green, Red, Unequal and Blue. These seem to be just the same as Alliant Green Dot, Red Dot, Unique and Blue Dot. I guess they figure that they can fill in the part of Alliant line that Alliant does not seem to be able to supply.
Wish they would think about bringing PB, SR 7625 and Sr 4756 back as well.

Now that it is easier to get what we want I would not buy it from them. I am still annoyed they dropped PB. Best to you KY.

And I'm annoyed they dropped SR 7625. IMO, it was a good 16 ga powder.

I liked both of those powders as well. But Alliant had been very hard to get for far too long. If IRM/Hodgdon has the same powder then either Alliant will have to do a better job of meeting my needs or I will buy from someone else. I use more than a dozen powders already and about half of them is because I have had to find substitutes for PB, Alliant and even Hodgdon powders. If you can buy the same thing under two names I am happy, 296, 540 and several others come to mind.
Now if they just came out with a good 9.99K Winchester 209 or a good 12.00/25 lb. bag of shot I'd be happy.

I don't understand why anyone would come out with any new powders. The powder situation has improved, but I still can't count on finding a specific powder locally. Hodgdon/IMR can't make enough of their current powders. I have seen only 1 new jug of Clays in the last 3 years. That jug belongs to a friend, not me. No one has any of these new IMR powders in stock, so we have to wait and see just how much shows up. The only powders that appear to be readily available are the single based Vectan powders. If I didn't have a healthy supply of the US branded products I would have switched to Vectan. I may do that as I deplete my reserves. I feel exactly zero allegiance to our domestic powder makers/suppliers. Regards, Jeff

I was still able to buy GD, American Select, Promo, RD, or 700X through this powder shortage. I believe AS and GD will do anything the powders did that were dropped so it didn't really bother me. PB got quite expensive, at least compared to AS.

I like several of the newer powders like 300-mp, Pro-reach, Longshot, .410 and others. If Hodgdon is going to be a source for what is a "generic" version of Red Dot, Green Dot, Unique and Blue Dot then that is all the better. Alliant has not been readily available around here for several years and shows no signs of getting better.
Alliant is still had to get locally and the Hazmat fee makes small lot orders too expensive to ship. So I have to substitute other powders I can find locally in loads to replace the one I use to use Alliant powders in. That is why I have so many different types of powder on hand. I just counted over 20 to cover my needs. If powders was freely available I could reduce that number by half. Then on top of that are the required different wads and primers required to create the reloads I am after. Everything could be reduced by half if the powders were ready to buy off the shelf like they were ten years ago.
I understand PB and SR 7625 are gone. But by beating the bushes I have over 30 pounds PB which will last me the rest of my low pressure reloading lifetime needs. With what I have on hand I can have four boxes of whatever load in less than 15 minutes, from .410 to 12 ga. shells, 10 gauge take me longer with a non hydraulic loader. From 5,000 psi to the heaviest field loads my shoulder can stand. And I can load shells in combinations which I can not buy with steel, Bismuth and lead. The bottle neck has been powders for the last five to ten years and anything which eases that choke point is fine with me.

I guess you can consider blaming Alliant for starting this when they made Clay Dot, a replacement for Hodgdon Clays.

Builder, I don't blame anyone. Clays was off the market for a couple of years so making a direct substitute was a very smart thing to do. It is a poorly kept secret that "some" powders have been made by others and imported or re-branded and sold. Perhaps Hodgdon is just "importing" the same powder, without the color flakes and selling it or perhaps they have decided to duplicate the powder. It does not matter. Promo, Red Dot, Green Dot, Unique and American Select have not been on shelves for several years in dependable amounts. In fact I never see Alliant powders much these days. I do see a fairly good amount of Hodgdon powders and if Hodgdon can fill the Alliant void so much the better. I do not have a brand loyalty to one maker of powder, ammo, gasoline or auto. Now beer, trucks, sports teams and ice cream are another matter. Especially ice cream.

Do any of you guys know anything about or have tried Winchester 572? I read somewhere (of course I can't remember where) that it had potential to replace 7625 or 4756 as it is slow burning. The web site talks of being able to be used in 12 ga to duplicate the old 3.25 dram/1.25oz 12 ga load at 1335 fps. That sounds like a slow powder to me. Of course when I look at their website, I don't see any load data for it yet.
