Jon: on the right side of this page are listed 16g pressures under the 1896 Rules of Proof. I have never seen pressures published from the 1870s.

Thanks Drew and 2-piper. I am going to work off those "facts" to start. I have two low pressure, lower velocity loads, that I like a lot.

RP SP 16 Plastic 7/8 oz. 20/28 15.5 Win 209 DR 16 1105 5760 16 Gauge forum

Fed 16 Plas 1 oz. PB 18.3 Win 209 BPI SG 16 1075 6,800 Hodgdon 2009

I have several other low pressure loads and will load up a few of each and head to the pattern board for some homework. First I have to clean it up and get 150 years oil out of the stock and fix a few chipped, cracked and missing areas on the stock.

Engelhardt gives the following black powder proofs on British for guns of class 4 (Double barrel breech loaders of smooth bore). 1868-1904, 16ga provisional proof = 10 3/4 drams of Tower Proof (TP) Black Powder. Definitive proof = 6 3/4 drams TP powder. Both used a round ball. Beginning 1875 if the gun was choke bore a weight of shot equal to the round ball of the widest part of the bore was used. No pressures are given.
1904 16 gauge Provisional = 10 3/4 Drams TP powder with 399 grain bullet. Definitive = 5˝ drams TP powder with 1 1/3 oz of shot. Service load = 2 3/4 dram powder with 1 oz shot.
Still no pressures given.
