Whats the general opinion Grulla spanish shotguns. Just purchased a 215 game gun in 20 ga. Looks like it built well, but most spanish guns don't seem to have the same reputation as other shotguns. Let me know what you think.

Grulla Armas build excellent shotguns and some of their stuff is incredible.

Spanish shotguns and their price point stuff imported back a few decades got this reputation about Spanish shotguns going and it seems it hasn't stopped yet. There were some builders that 'dumped' their shotguns on the American market that were not finished correctly and would not hold up to hard use. But the top of the line builders that were not involved in this 'dumping' or 'price point' marketing such as Grulla Armas have always built excellent guns.

Most Grullas would be considered "High Grade" shotguns; most have elegant engraving and fine finish.

I haven't seen a used Grulla sell for less than $2k. Many go for $4k+.

Get Wieland's book "Spanish Best", it has a chapter on Grulla and there is other Grulla info scattered elsewhere in the book. Amazon has the second edition for $20.

I've owned a Grulla Consort model for several years now, and love it. You won't find a better gun for under 5 figures, new, and they are without a doubt, a best buy on the used gun market. If you're looking at a used one you will probably find it priced at around 1/3 the price of a new one of the same model.

Grulla (formerly Union Armera) made guns for Dakin Arms Co, Orvis, Griffin & Howe and still make them for William Powell of Birmingham. That is good track record and if the gun is high quality (which 215 is) chances of poorly heat treated parts is slim to none. After shooting 250+ cartridges please let us know how the gun is doing.

I have a 16 gauge 215k that I purchased new in 2003. It currently has over 40k rounds through it and is still tight as can be. It is known to be a 'death ray.'

The Dakin Model 215 sold for an astronomical $300.00 in the late fifties when Warren Page of Field and Stream promoted it. I have seen some 215s with rough edges, but you will know when you see one like that. The earlier guns can be identified by the Italian letter code stamped on the inside, UA for Union Armera. They are great guns.

I have a pair of Grulla made guns arriving any day now and, whilst one likes to trust what the dealer says about robustness, it's reassuring to hear they they can genuinely take some good use.

Out of curiosity, has the finish held up as well as the functional side of things? (from your photos it looks like it has?)

Do you shot non-tox in your Grulla 215k, 16 gauge? What is the barrel length?
