I have a falling block action that hopefully soon i will be able to fit a barrel to and then have stocked. On the barrel i will need to fit the front and rear sight bases, a sling swivel and a fore-end hanger. These will have to be soldered on and that got me thinking about barrel temper.

I have seen videos of double rifles having their regulation done by the wedge in the end of the barrels and solder melted etc, and on single barrel rifles, having sights etc soldered on.

If you heat the barrel up to a temp where solder melts and then let it cool slowly, surely the barrel will be annealed ? Are barrels not heat treated after manufacture, are they left in their annealed state ?
