First, the cocking indicators are pushed out when the hammers are cocked. Whether the barrels are closed does not matter. Are the hammers cocking (do they fire)? The purpose of the springs is to move the indicators in when the hammers are fired. The indicators should be moved out, when cocked, whether the springs are in place or not.
