I checked and the pin is in the underlug. The receiver and barrels lockup tight.

Make sure you have a well fitting screwdriver & remove the one screw holding the sideplates on. There is a pin which goes through the cocking hook & both hammers with a key milled onto one side, the ends will be visable in the hammers after removing plates. If the bbl is lifting the hook but hammers aren't raising, sounds as if either the key is sheared or hammers missing.

The hammers cock fine when I lift up on the hook that hooks onto the pin in the underlug. When I put the barrels on and open them, the underlug pin is not catching the cocking hook and thus is not lifting up and cocking the hammers. With the side plates off, everything looks good and clean and operable. Is it necessary for the forearm to be on the barrels in order for the underlug pin to catch the cocking hook?

Normally Yes; It sometimes possible to hold the bbls hard forward & get them to catch & cock the hammers with forend off. This pin was very precisely located so that just the slightest movement to the rear allowed it to slip past the hook for disassembly so normally it will not catch with forend off. If it is not catching with forend on then pin may be bent & need replacement.

Had a similar problem on a DS. After much adjusting of the compensating screw(screw hinge pin), in and out I determined the leading edge of the cocking hook was worn. Fired up the TIG and built up the leading edge and the interior(top) edge of the hook. Then file fit. Works great now. Hope this helps, Dr. BILL

Bill,
Is this the screw at the end of the receiver that adjusts the face-on fit of the barrels (chamber face)? Mine appears to be a large bronze slotted screw with a round ball base that fits into a recessed area of the monoblock if I'm thinking correctly.

You got it! Now to get it to move. Suggest you give it a dose of Kroil for 2-3 hours then put the receiver in a padded vice. "Attack" screw with large slotted screwdriver and crescent wrench and 4 hands. Good luck, BILL

Bill,
Your right about that! I could not turn it at all! I'll let it soak like you said for a couple of days and try it again.

Gary, you really need to get that gun to a gunsmith who knows what he's doing. You've already told us that the gun locks up tight and that the cross pin is present in the underlug. I don't believe adjusting the pivot screw is going to have anything to do with your problem, even if you can break it loose.
