Has anyone tested the pressure of the Herter's low recoil 1 oz. 12g. loads running at 1060 fps? They are easy on the gun and on us but I wonder what the pressure might be.

I totally realize I have a different outlook on this than many. Personally I am not as concerned about the max pressure as I am the overall ballistics of the load.
In a Flues I would rather shoot a 1 oz load @ 1150 fps with 10K pressure than that 32 gram (1 1/8 oz) @ 1400 fps even if it only had 7K pressure.
I believe I have seen as many Flues' with cracked stocks as I have L C Smiths. Also the small bore Flues in particular has been known to have a cracked frame. In either case I am of the opinion that a heavy Recoiling load is going to be the culprit more so so than the actual max breech pressure. The chamber itself will likely stand up to SAAMI pressures, the rest of the guin likely won't, at least not for regular use over a period of time.

I posted this previously for 2 3/4" and 3".

"Here's what I just received from Kent - Game Bore.

12 gauge bismuth 2 3/4", 1 1/16 ounce=9800psi, 1 1/4 ounce=10,000psi

12 gauge tungsten 2 3/4", 1 3/8 ounce=11400 psi, 1 1/4 ounce=9900psi,

12 gauge tungsten 3" are at 10,400psi and 11,300 psi"

Just send them an email and I suspect you will get the pressure data for the 2.5". And then let us know what it is.

I always thought that the Flues was Ithaca's best shotgun in balance and handling. The NID is very strong but I always felt it was clunky and unbalanced when compared to their Flues.

Just my useless opinion, take it for what its worth.

Ithaca has to beef up their doubles to handle the higher pressure loads that came out after WWI. You can get away with shooting a few hot loads in a Flues if you are lucky but long term you just going to regret it most likely. Not so much a blowup risk as cracked stock risk and I hate restocking a Flues.

That's why I reload for the few 20 ga Flues I shoot. They are so light that carrying them is very comfortable but a steady diet of factory loads would end their use of quickly.

CJO that is such a tease. Now you'll have them begging for photos and then drooling.
