The real 'not best practice' here is attempting to learn what could very well be safety critical basic information from a salesman.

At least now we know why it was for sale.

The gun should not double. Either trigger should function independently.

This could be a result of the 'inexpert' stocking job, or a byproduct of the reassembly after refinishing, or a host of other things from simple to correct to a fix requiring the hand making of one or more parts.

I'll not comment further on the ethics of some engaged in the 'sport' of commercial business, but I will caution you to slow down and conduct a course of self study on this whole firearms hobby.

The first stop could very well be the club at which you intend to engage in your chosen sport. They may have a QUALIFIED instructor, or perhaps a mentoring program. You likely can at least ask questions and observe. Most of these places are interested in growing their sport, and doing so safely.

Navarro, you should absolutely heed all of the warnings you have been given about the probable mechanical issues with your rear trigger/sear mechanism. The jolt it receives upon firing the right barrel is apparently causing the left barrel to fire. This condition is commonly known as "doubling", and it is both dangerous and potentially damaging to both gun and shooter. It is only a matter of time until a lesser jolt does the same thing. The damn thing could go off from simply closing the gun sharply. Anything or anyone in front of this gun could get shot.

Fixing this issue shouldn't be very expensive. Not fixing it could get extremely costly.

This explains a lot, I guess you can't win them all. When I bought my .45LC Vaquero I was very happy with it and got lots of compliments. The same happened when I bought my .45LC Henry big boy. But I guess my 3rd and final purchase didn't go as well. I went around looking for a Coach Gun. This was just to entertain myself. Not so much to join a CASS group.

My admiration for the short barrel shot gun proved to be challenging. This was because the most common is the 20" and longer barrels. So when I found the one guy who had an 18 1/2" a (Gun Exchange in El Paso)I just had to have it. The Gun Smith told me he was working on the trigger. I told him when he was finished with it, I'd be interested in buying it.

After waiting 6 weeks for it to be ready, I believe I paid more than I should have. But the price was below my "Walk away" price. All the info that I learned here leads me to not only did I pay too much, but that I have to pay even more to get it right. In the end the appearance of the Gun meets my criteria.
Stan provided me a contact to an excellent Gun Smith close to my location, which I will take my Gun to in order to get the Sear fixed.

I can't take it back to where I picked it up as he will be gone for a while to attend a shoot out of town. Also it took 6wks to get it from him in the first place just to still have the trigger issue he thought he fixed. The folks there are very friendly and accommodating but they have a min of 3 weeks wait time.

Thank god I'm in a position in my life right now where money isn't the biggest issue. getting this Gun right, getting the loads right, getting my distances right, and getting the results I'm looking for is the focus at this point. I know I can get there with the help and guidance you guys are providing.

Navarro, I don't know if you reload shotgun shells,
but there are some recipes that will suite your efforts just fine.
There are wads that hold the pellets in tight, and they work well from sawed off barrels. That will save you the grief of battering your gun apart with modern defense loads.

Of course, that kind of is the opposite of what an 18" shotgun was created for. They provided increased margin-of-error, back in the day.

Out there doing it best I can.

A low pressure load hand loaded using black powder and buffered buckshot would result in a pretty significant visual experience.

That actually might be great fun. Start looking for brass hulls at shows and on the internet. They're much better for BP, and last a whole lot longer. Paper hulls only last a couple of loadings. If there's a trap range near you, lot's of folks throw away their used paper hulls. If you have that type of source, go with paper. I've gotten hundreds that way, so I seldom load my brass hulls.

Regards
Ken

I don't reload as I'm just getting into this type of stuff. I stay in the barracks for now so having gun powder etc is out of the question. Then I go back to NY where having these things are the anti-Christ.

Once I'm done here on FT. Bliss I'll have an FFL ship my stuff to Pa. That's where an Army buddy of mine will hold on to them for me. If I find that I'm not taking to two hr ride to shoot with him, he'll probably benefit by getting the entire set at a great deal. So for now reloading isn't an option.
