Well I have got birds now in two fields in good numbers and some in the others. I did see more teal on a local impoundment area this week that were there last week. Might be enough to make a nice teal shoot possible next weeks as well in the morning. A teal and dove dinner is real tasty eating to me.
Stopped by and talked with the farm manager for the state wildlife area today. His bird numbers are up and down almost on a daily basis. He claims any north wind this time of year is a double edge sword. Likely to take teal and dove away one day and bring them in from up north the next. I hope the numbers stay up or climb but will be grateful for what ever we get.

Still pretty thin here. Did a little scouting this morning and only saw just a few. I'm not going to bother this year.

Dove hunters, beware! If numbers are down, it won't be long before the antis are blaming it on hunting. At which point you can either get very frustrated with their stupidity . . . or else maybe just shake your head and say that you're sure it's due to global warming.

Lots of Doves here in Fisher County Texas.....
Fields shredded a week or more earlier show numbers ranging from Very Good to Extraordinary on this morning's final scouting drive....Looking forward to it.

Well we are going to be under the middle of the remnants of Harvey opening day and compared to what the people of Texas went through that not that big of a deal. If the rain is constant we might as well stay home but if it is off and on showers we will be fine. Bird numbers are down from last year around here but we have had a lot of teal move in. More teal than I've seen in years. In Ohio we can shoot teal Sept. 2 and KY its middle of Sept but also includes wood ducks. So second day my son and I will try to have a double header for teal and dove. Mighty tasty eating on both counts. Safe hunting and enjoy life. Hunting season is here again at last.

Talked to a hunting buddy in KY this afternoon and he says y'all are supposed to get 5" of rain and some wind. Says the farmers there are cutting corn silage hard as they can trying to get ahead of it. High winds are not good for standing corn.

We have more birds in East Central Mississippi than the last few, but that's damning with faint praise. Don't think we will ever have the numbers that we had when I was a teenager and the season didn't open until the third weekend of September. No such thing as late season hunts anymore here either...
