Ok, I need to find a picture of a Heym 22f extractor cam, and extractor rod, we had one come into the shop with a mangled one that had been very badly beaten up and brazed (unsuccessfully) back together. Anyone have an example they wouldn't mind snapping a couple pictures of or a link to an exploded diagram at least? Thanks for the help guys, Zack

Mike, the 22f is the 16 over .222 "budget" combo gun, cast in or stamped engraving, no fore end iron.

post a picture of your gun with the damaged parts. Most extractors and cams work the same way, as the barrel is tipped down the forward portion of the extractor hits the cam and effectively stops the extractor while the barrel continues to move drawing out the spent case. It has to be timed correctly with regards to the firing pin.

The problem is that if the cam is a hair away from touching the top of the slot, then when fully opened the extractor rod will fall back over the top of the cam. I think there must be way that the cam "captures" the extractor rod, but the rod has evidence of being worked on as well, I though it was just straightening and deburring, now I am not so sure.

Ok Zack, That is the Gun I knew as the 22S. I have a 44n, which came with 2 set of barrels, the same gun with one barrel set was 22?. Photos of my extractor won't help, entirely different system. BTW, that gun is what caused Heym to get DWM to make up the 5,6x50R, because they were having trouble with the extractor in 222/222Mag.Mike

How much slop between the rod and the hole? With the problem you describe you want as tight of a tolerance as you can get while the rod still moves freely. If it has been worked on it is likely it is no longer an even diameter and you may have some thin spots allowing the rod to hop over the cam
