Brian, even though it is sleeved? I'm not too crazy about the look, especially, as one poster stated, the look behind the grip with the extreme nose of the comb height, but if he shoots it well, I think he made a defensible choice on a gun that had already lost it's collector status. I could be wrong again.

Those 3" of drop guns just ar so hard to shoot. This is not a rare, high condition gun. It looks nice, should be more functional and get used as it was intended to be used.

I picked up a Lefever D grade take off stock that is a Monte Carlo Factory. It's shape is not that much different at the comb but one thing I like about Lefevers is the that they are very thin in proportions. The wrist is thin. The comb area is thin. I think modern guns are much thicker in width. Thin stocks look more graceful. The thicker stocks might be easier on the face but each shooter has to shoot them to see what works for them.

John is right. The gun is sleeved and has lost its collector value. I recognize that the esthetics of Monte Carlo stocks, including the ones that Uncle Dan's factory produced in the mid-1890s, are not to everybody's taste. My own favorite design is a straight stock with high dimensions. But the Monte Carlo design makes this old Lefever shootable for me, and Mark's seamless additions and grain and figure matching are amazing. It is hard enough to pull this off with a stock extension, let alone a stock extension and spliced addition to the comb. That achievement struck me as remarkable and worth sharing.
