As long as we are into comparisons, let's not ignore the Miroku and Daly 500s. I have a Miroku 20ga/28" with DT, and a Daly 12ga/28" with an extra set of 30" Miroku barrels fitted. The Miroku 20 is prettier than the BSS 20, and it's lighter, but has a pistol grip rather then the Sporter's English grip. Same for the Daly 12 ga, but the difference in weight and balance is more noticeable on the 12s. All great values, and if you stumble across a Miroku or Daly while looking for a BSS, jump on it. My Miroku and Daly guns have 2-3/4" chambers as opposed to the BSS' 3" chambers, so that probably accounts for the weight/balance differences.

Most of the Daly-marked sxs had a beavertail as well as a PG; typically DT and extractors. Good value. The Miroku-marked guns aren't seen as often. I had a very "plain Jane" 12ga Miroku, marked "Model M", I should have kept. DT/straight/splinter, case colored receiver. 28" barrels and factory choked IC/IM. Looked for all the world like a very basic Birmingham boxlock. Wonderful pheasant gun. The guy to whom I sold it still has it. I need to see if he wants to part with it.
You'll occasionally find one Miroku "sleeper" on the market (if you don't look hard enough). Back when Wards was still in the gun business, Miroku made some double for them, sold under the "Western Field" name. Very similar to the Dalys. And of course with a Daly, you do need to take a close look because it might be Italian (made by Beretta) or Spanish (made by Zabala). You won't have any problem sorting out the older and very high quality Prussian Dalys. The price tag will take care of that.

Been having a ball blowing up terracotta turtledoves with this glossy, Hefner-era gravel-thrower. Better scores every time out. Modified seems to work just fine, if I hit em just as they leave the trap.
The crosspin thats been drifting... Its the lowest, rearmost pin on the action, the one directly over the front of the trigger guard. I plan to Loctite it and let it set once the snow starts flying. But heres another question: Will I need to detail-strip and degrease the action for that to have a good chance of working? Or will local cleaning of the pin and its bearing holes suffice?

They make real nice guns. Here is nice example of same thing (different company similar quality and handling) with double triggers and lots of quality engraving.... BLE with DT quality engraving on "French Grey" receiver.... Someone added nice pad and opened choke in right barrel from 1/2 choke to 1/4 choke. Nice heavy duty game gun. PS. If it was B.C. Miroku Browning BLE Grade II it would be priced well over 2,000USD.

Fudd, To correct the problem I had with the same pin you're talking about, I simply drifted it out about 1/8 in. amd cleaned the pin and hole with alcohol. I then applied some blue locktite, drifted the pin back in place wiping any excess away and left it dry. Haven't had it move since. I suspect that whatever hinges on it, rotates making it move. My simple fix worked great. Hope this helps. Karl
