Not only a gorgeous checkering pattern, but a very unusual pistol grip shape for a Savage! Most have either a grip cap or on deluxe versions an "S" shape to the grip. That one is shaped more like a Remington Hepburn, and is a wonderful treatment for this gun!
But I don't believe the gun pictured is factory stock work, as the lever is for a straight grip Savage, and not a pistol grip. I suppose it's remotely possible the factory could do a one off with a pistol grip stock, and straight lever, so I try to never say "NEVER". But just doesn't look quite right to my eyes.
