Can't say as I've ever seen that Hepburnesque shape to a Savage pistol grip, even in early guns? I owned a dozen or so at one time, and never had any with that style pistol grip, or saw any either. Have a good friend with a couple hundred 1899/99 Savage rifles, and I'll have to send him this picture to see if he has any, or has seen this style.
The G has a very pronounced pistol grip stock/lever, and early 1899's didn't have that. But they had more than this gun has. This one shows a bit of the slightly curved lever, but doesn't show the "S" bottom to the PG area. It's much like what Marlin used on their PG stocks.:
