When I got the NID I did not have any SXS or O/U and I had a serious yearning for a raised rib bevavertail Model 21 set up for trap. But I did not want to fork over the cash and I jumped on the NID because of its high condition.
After I got a 21 set up like the NID the NID became a candidate for liquidation.
Now my plan is to take the NID to a relatively large show and see what happens in terms of sale or trade
It's all fun

Bushmaster:
Don't feel alone. I've listed a number of guns on this site and sold only two of them (one deal actually ended as a trade for a gun another on this site had for sale on one of the major gun sale sites). I have three listed currently at what I consider to be decent, although not bargain prices. One inquiry so far.
Small market, expert buyers, most without a need for what is offered.

I don't know if it is the current market because the NID has been underappreciated and undervalued for a long time. Their value doesn't seem to move and when it does move it moves down.
Hard to put a finger on it as the quality of them ranks right up there as one of America's best. If you're of the persuasion of the 'one gun man' there is no better 'one gun' to have resting above the old fireplace or leaning up against the wall behind the kitchen door.

I've found field grade SxS's to be exceedingly hard to sell. I collected NID's for many years and generally stayed away from 12 bores with a few exceptions. Some 4's and 5's and a 3 inch 12 bore on the 10 Magnum frame. (#500xxx) Your field 12 is a very fine gun and approaches benchmark status. The bulk of NID production were 12 gauge guns--so there's always plenty to choose from--although few as nice as yours condition wise. Most field grade guns were used hard. The later NON--indicator guns seem to sell better in my experience. Nicer looking frame/wood/checkering/dimensions seem to attract more interest. There are many more folks looking for Parkers--Foxes--Smiths. The Ithaca's always came in last as far as the number of willing buyers. You will most likely be disappointed in what you are offered at a gun show for your gun. I don't know what you have invested, but if its over $1000--be prepared to take a haircut! Enjoy your fine gun and put it to work in the field or at the traps! Strictly my impressions and opinions from 50 years of loving NID's!!

Bushmaster,
As others have said, NID's - like all but highest grade Ithaca's of any double model era - have always been underappreciated.
I also agree with the earlier point that this forum, while yhe BEST place to learn and share about doubles...isnt the best place to sell them.
Sadly, no gun show fetches higher prices than GunBroker. Because the guy who pays "up" for a gun is usually the guy who just wants to get into the game. So he buys the best gun he can afford, even if he overpays. It's AFTER he does this once or twice that he finds his way to forums like this, begins to acquire a library, etc.
Thats exactly how i acquired my first, years ago. It was a very nice original condition L.C. Smith field grade.
I paid about 25% too much for a high condition gun...that they made almost 200,000 of.
One lives and learns. *s*

Your asking price for a benchmark NID 12 is about 100% high.

Boy, that's a nice looking gun. Part of it is the market, and part of it is pedigree. And please understand that I have more Ithacas than I know what to do with.

I own a variety of SxS's and think the Remington's and Ithaca's are the easiest to work on. They're a simple action with least to go wrong. Your gun looks very nice and worth the money. It seems unless it's a high grade one , they don't get the money they deserve.

Everything I have sold on GB recently, which albeit is only a few guns, sold after 4 or 5 auction cycles. It takes time for buyers to find stuff in a crowded field.
