Not necessary for patterning of bird shot on flat sheet of paper. For slug shooting old style leather or leather type bene bag of appropriate size on standing bench is the way to go. Caldwell lead sled is designed for those testing or sighting in long range heavy recoiling rifles. They are interested in tiny groups at 100 yards or more. You will see lots of pics at places like 24 Hour campfire where quality of rifle is judged by how small cluster of holes are. crazy
