There are many reasons why the 12 gauge has out sold all others & has become a standard or norm of shotguns.
Here in Australia the 410 is very common to the degree that some household's have a 410 & no other shotgun. The 410 is considered to be the best snake gun & we have many very poisonous Joe Blake's about on farms & in out buildings. Mum feels that she can handle a four ten better in that situation than a twelve.
The price of the ammo is near as poisonous as the snakes.
My recent purchase of a sixteen has shown me a thing or two when I go to buy ammo & reloading components. Up till purchasing a sixteen I had never shot one or knew anyone with one. I once knew a bloke with a twenty & know no one with a twenty eight or any other thing.
Twelve is the King here & the ammo & reloading supplies price & availability reflect that.
