With the writing on the wall here in California and no hopes of leaving the state (due to a successful business),
I've been divesting myself of a plethora of fine vintage doubles that sooner rather than later won't be able to be hunted or shot without leaving the state.

I'm replacing my guns with fewer (but somewhat finer) SxS's that are more modern, better fitted, and steel shot compatible.
3 of my remaining single digit cabinet are identical in configuration and dimensions. It's kind of like having a multi gauge tubed set only with whole guns and not just tubes or barrels

Everything is getting out to the range more often with fewer hurt feelings inside the safe.
Scores certainly haven't suffered either.

Could less actually be more?

Less is just different, but it won't feel like more if there are any regrets.

Bob,
I've culled my battery down to 5 SxS's. I'm content and happy with the ones that remain, and see no regrets in not keeping more. The ones I have left are special to me, and as it turns out, are the ones that made it out of the safe frequently. I l know it sounds strange, but maybe I've lost my desire to simply aquire. But, if the gun of all guns shows up............

According to Forum Stats, there are 13243 members. I've an opinion that all the members have all of the guns they need from an objective standard, but it's the subjective, amorphous "want" (gun greed, not need) that overrides needs. Gil

Culling is an admirable goal and though I have tried, I have not been able to achieve it for long. I culled from 38 all the way down to 4 with the last 6 paying for a jump back to number 5.

I thought I would stay under 8, but I am at 18 (down from 19) with 7 designated to go away as I either find a good trade or trades, or sale.

I think when the dust settles I will either be at 12 or 13 with two of those rifles, and five maybe six Christophes.

I just cant seem to let go of any of my collection of Christophe SLEs

I admit I have not shoot the rifles in several years. And I further caveat all this post with the admission that I rarely shoot more than two ( 16ga Christophe SLE & 16ga Purdey SLE) now three (just received a pair of Alex Martin 16ga SLEs) of the shotguns.

One day I may join you in reducing more, but not sure if I will be able to.
