Are the old blue Rem. RXP shells & RXP wads any good for reloading? A friend gave me a bunch. What is a good low pressure load with these components?

OK, here's the news flash from an old Hercules reloading guide (early 1980's). Pal of mine who never throws anything away has some of these, loaded many times. It was a good shell, superior to the Blue Magic which replaced it.

There are many loads with the Rem 97* listed, and a few with the CCI 109, which is a CCI 209 by any other name (sez so in the book here).

Hercules sez... from 1980...

CCI 109 primers
2 3/4, 1 1/8, 1145fps, RXP 12, 17gr Red Dot, 7,900psi
2 3/4, 1 1/8, 1145fps, RXP 12, 18gr Unique, 7,700 psi

That help?

Remember, you didn't hear this from me, and I don't want to hear from your lawyer, etc.

Thank you very much. Don't worry I just wanted to know if what I had was junk or some of the good old components. Thanks for the load and I will look for some of the old shotshell loading books for other loads.

One of the problems with using hulls that haven't been made in nearly 20 years is that many of the components that are listed in the older reloading manuals are no longer available.

Look in a copy of the Lyman 3rd Edition. It has dozens of loads in the RXP case. But many of the primers and powders are no longer available.

Post what components you would like to use, along with the pressures and velocities you would like to achieve. I'll see what I can find.

There is usually a number of the Lyman 3rd Editions for sale on eBay.
