The early Sedgley and Griffin and Howe Hornets used 22 rimfire barrels from the Springfield Armory with .223 bore diameter. Early Winchester Hornets like their high wall barrells and Model 54s also have .223 bores. My experience is that those early Hornets often shoot as well with .224 bullets as with the smaller ones. I've had several Sedgleys marked 22 WCF. All had standard Hornet chambers and shot very well.
