16 yards works well since it works out mathematically that for every inch you are off on the pattern board you need to move the stock 1/16" where your eye is on the stock. So if your are 4" left, you need to move the point your eye is located 4/16" to the right. Since your eye is approximately 1/3 the way back on the stock comb you need to move the butt 3 times that or 12/16" (3/4").
