Bult a couple of Railbird skiffs for a gentleman years ago but have never hunted them. Know at least one fellow in Salem Cty. who does.

Hi Kevin, welcome back to PA. I've hunted both when I lived in S.J. Sora are for gentleman gunners, Clappers are for nut cases. A good Clapper Rail hunt is the most fun anyone who can swim could possibly want. Bring a beater gun, a pair of lace up high-top sneakers, go when the tide just covers the salt meadows and start walking.
I used to like the marshes on the mainland side behind Ocean City but if you want Sora you have to get a guide with a skiff on the Maurice river. Actually your height may present a problem as it's better to stand in the skiff and it can be a bit of sudden stops and goes. Sora are good to eat but Clappers are impossible. It's really why I quit hunting them, why kill something harmless that you can't eat. I had planned to keep my boat on the Maurice river this year, live on it and hunt thru the Fall but will have to wait until next year.
