So I am sitting on the couch holding a EE Leferver 20 bore. 2nd wife walks in and states I wish you love me as much as you love that gun.

I've seen a lot of internet posts but never one that starts like that! Made me chuckle.

I hear ya. Had my new Rizzini on my lap for about two weeks after she arrived. Constantly got the head shake. Woman just don't understand the beauty of a gun....well most woman anyway.

A couple of anecdotes.
My Wife never complains -------until a couple of years ago I had the chance of buying a Krieghoff that I really didn't need but was too good a deal to pass on .
So rather than carry a lerge wad of cash with me I paid by cheque. A few weeks later I was rushing around like a mad thing with the good lady paying bills and other such stuff before going to the ground to do a few lessons.
Rapidly running out of time (we all know how ladies like to browse in shops )I dropped the Wife off at home and whilst doing so said " Be a sweetheart and just put my cheque bokk in my drawer to save me getting out of the car".
On the way to the ground I got six missed calls from the Wife. When I called her back she said " You and me need to talk when you're home".

When I was a Gunsmith in the Army a Major asked me if I could call round to his house to give an estimate to repair 'a bargain gun'. I did , when I mentioned the cost of new wood , making a stock and forend , blacking the barrels etc.
A voice came from the next room " Oh darling that's an awful lot of dresses".
"It's okay" he said to me ," we have an understanding."

Ok it's not a gun, (I'm pretty good getting those in the back door) but what do you do when you have put a sizable deposit down an a started setter (got a couple of months before pickup) and need to get it into the house.. Now we have three dogs, one lap dog (wife's) one washout setter who loves everyone and my hunting dog Magic. Problem being he is 12 (and the other two are 12 and 13)and I found this really nice dog, ranges what I want loves being in the house riding in the truck etc. So how do I play this hand............? I'll even take the smart ass answers under consideration.......

Oooo...that's going to leave a mark. A 4th dog takes you into forgiveness vs permission territory. That's a dark and dangerous land.

Eis, Just be straight with her.

I explained to mine years ago, how much my sporting life means to me. I explained that gaps in my dog ownership meant seasons of dissatisfaction. Years I would never get back.
Dogs don't live as long as people, and there would always be periods of overlap, when one dog was old and retired, and one was young and rambunctious. So far, barring my failed litter 2 years ago, it's been a good run. I'm sans Lab right now, and will fix that as soon as I can, for next season. With her understanding.

Dogs fill a place in our lives, and she knows I can't be happy without them.

Out there doing it best I can.

Well, I guess we all know what the first wife said about that gun.
