My 10's, a Lefever, Remington, and a Parker go 9.7-9.3 and 9.12. I use mine for claybirds with 1oz of shot. If you're looking for heavy loads I'd check the DAH more than anything else. The old guns usually had a lot of drop and that means a lot of muzzle flip, or slapping you in the face pretty good.

Thanks so much, Mike. I have a couple other guns from this fellow but judging from the wear this one was his go-to gun. I very much wish I could have joined him on a hunt while he shot canvasbacks at Long Point on Lake Erie with that side-opener Jeffries.

There are some fantastic older 10 gauge doubles out there that are VERY shootable in the field...like the 30" Prussian Daly 10 gauges that weigh around 8#. Those are 2 7/8" chambers of course. I'm on the hunt for the right one. It will not be limited to waterfowl blinds. I will look forward to using it on upland walking hunts. These light 10's were the all around hunting gauge "back in the day" when waterfowlers were using 8 gauges, etc. With safe, appropriate loads using modern wads & techniques, they are impressive.
