Open apology due here. When liverwort put this thread up, I came down on his questions pretty hard, unneccessarily so. Got a pm from him, he pretty much expressed his displeasure at what I wrote, using "internet muscle" as an apt description of my behavior here, as well as some disparaging remarks about me and my family, which were also unnecesaary to get my attention, but I won't let that stop me from saying I'm sorry for what I wrote, which I took down asap.
It did, however, bring home to me the fact that sometimes I reply too harshly to some perfectly benign things asked here, regardless of how I see them, and I intend to dial that back. Y'all feel free to let me know when I backslide.
This was on my mind.

John, I have to say I sometimes am a bit taken aback by the apparent certitude you exhibit in some of your posts. Particularly on subjects that are clearly opinions. Not always left with the best taste in my mouth. But....anyone who takes a good lashing as an opportunity for self reflection and can offer a well meaning apology ranks high in my books.
We are all often wrong. The important part is to be able to recognize it when it's drawn to our attention. Well done John!
