This fellow does a nice job of capturing the feel of deer hunting in my part of rural Pennsylvania. The woods of my youth looked very much like this. I was doing it with my great grandfather's 1886 Winchester and not a muzzleloader, but the feel is the same, eerily so.

Ah the post glacial landscapes of dear old western PA. It's funny how when I lived in the absolutely gorgeous surroundings of western WA, I still thought of and missed the thick hardwood stands of Pennsylvania - the playground of my youth. Lloyd, I feel like you may be in the same boat...


That said, now that I'm again living in Pennsylvania, I miss the mountains and icy streams of WA!

This place he's filmed looks so-much like where I used to hunt with my dad and grandfather, it kind-of beats me up a bit. My very best memories of both of them were on days like what this young fellow has captured. It's hard to believe that the 70s were that long ago now. When I walk those woods now in my visits back there, I swear I can almost hear their voices.

Using a TVM also Lloyd. A nice 50 or 54 caliber would do just right out west or back east.

He needs a short starter so he doesn't lean over that barrel like that. Good video.
No, on second look he's OK, would make it a little easier on the rifle though.

Spent too-much time at Dixons last summer to be fully satisfied with my mass-produced smokepole anymore (longrifles just look and feel sooo-good to me!). I also wanted a flinter with much better lock-time, so I just signed-up tuesday for a bespoke .45 lefty gun from TVM to possibly use out here a bit (too small for elk), but mostly for back there. I settled on the .45, a curly-maple stock, and a swamped barrel to save a little weight (on that 42-inch tube!) for nice long walks in Penn's Woods. I told them to pay close attention to weight and balance and I even requested that they cast it "on" for me (we'll see how Matt does?). The build will supposedly take 9-months, so...very much something to look forward to.

Never had one but always heard good things about their rifles. Made the wrong decision way back when as I bought the Hatfield and should have bought the TVM Tennessee Mountain rifle.

Wow, that's exactly what I ordered. Looked the most like a Pennsylvania "Schimmel" to my eyes (I really liked the lines on those guns I saw at Dixons last year). I went with the red stain and the iron fixtures. They use Siler locks and Davis triggers (I went with the "set" triggers) which seem to get good reviews...I'm excited.
