In a word...no. Even 12 gauge field grade guns in average condition were typically selling for less 10 years ago than they are now. Smaller bores and higher grade guns have appreciated even more. Even beaters, projects, and parts guns are more expensive now than they were a decade ago. Too bad we can't access actual Gunbroker completed sales listings from that far back to finally put this myth to rest.

But I am somewhat concerned about rising oil prices, and the effect that will have on the price of hinge pin grease.
