The question was asked about barrel marks on Meriden guns.. I have a Meriden made, hammerless sidelock, It has 30" fluid steel barrels (and marked so on the water table) with an L in a circle. There was something above the L, but it didn't stamp well on the rounded surface of the barrel. This gun has "Utica Special" on the side plates. I saw another one in a shop, identicaal in every way, to the one I have, so Meriden apparently made guns for others, besides sears ..MDC

The three-blade shotguns were hammerless and richly embellished with engraving and depending on the level of embellishment cost between $30.75 and $38.50. In that same catalogue, an L.C. Smith 2- blade damascus shotgun with modest embellishment sold for $42 and the highest grade LC Smith sold by Sears with 3-blade damascus sold for $56.

For perspective, the three-furrow disc horse drawn plow was selling for $43.50 in the 1906 catalog.

A Few years ago while at A Montana Gun show I purchased a Fagen 90% stock that had Meriden written on its side. The old fellow that was selling it told me that he was shore it fit a Parker hammeer gun. Truth is, it was for a Meriden gun just like it said. I still have the stock, and no Meriden gun. I paid $50.00. If some one needs it send me a Email. dlien40@hotmail.com

MC-

Given the relatively short life of the Meriden Firearms Company and years that have passed since they were in business, I would suspect that parts may be a bit difficult to obtain, but I am always surprised at how available parts can be sometimes if one keeps their eyes open. Years ago I managed to find the proper extractor for an early commercial Colt Ace, and this month I found a factory new old stock IC barrel for a Winchester M12 Featherweight (that shotgun had a short production life '59-
'62)! There isn't a part made that a good gunsmith can't recreate, but that is expensive. One of the better sources of parts is the Gun Parts Corporation.

Pete-

Who is the one maker you identified ? Where in Illinois are you? I am in Aurora. I went over to the St. Charles club yesterday and shot 2 quick rounds of trap with the Meriden. I just love shooting this old shotgun and I had a blast (after not shooting for over a month I managed to shoot 22/25 both rounds).

OK guys here's what I came home with, haven't cleaned it up yet but it seems tight as a drum and everything works.
