This has been an interesting discussion even though I am not a fan of the ".410". It should however be noted that 36 gauge = .506" in diameter & is in no way at all related to the .410 except it is a smaller number than than 32. I guess they thought that sounded "Bigger" than 67.49, true gauge size of the .410.

There is a book. Encyclopedia of The 410 Shotshell in America 1914 - 1942, by Greg Bickford. Kinda spendy, $75 plus postage

Just to add another length to the mix, prior to The Great War, Western Cartridge Co. put up their .410-bore shells in a 2 1/8 inch FIELD shell.

I'd like to see an Eley catalog from 1927 to 1932 that offers the 3-inch .410-bore shell.

The reference to 36 gauge was associated with the .505 chamber diameter. There are a number of sources citing this, including Dr. Drew's reference in this thread.
