I've shot right hand auto and pump shotguns for years and they've never bothered me. You get used to the empties whizzing by your face after a while!
The biggest problem I had was to re-train myself to handle and shoot an auto pistol left handed after years of shooting right handed. This was before ambidexterous safties and mag. releases became common. My accuracy also improved since I'm left eye dominant. One good thing is I really don't have a "weak" hand.
