In Ontario for roughly the first 20 plus years turkey licences were offered, 1995 until last year, one had to take a completely separate course to cover turkey hunting. It was a weekend long affair of lectures and tests. The prime motivation was to highlight the potential danger, especially by imitating behavior, appearance or calling of a male turkey.

I believe last year they folded it into the regular hunting safety course all new hunters must pass.
