1930--on the cusp. Boy is that gun light for American corncrib 12 or what? Maybe we're getting overly Manichean about this professional man/farmer thing, Lowell. I'm sure many a lawyer, doctor and preacher hoed a few rows, split a few rails, said Gee and Haw to a team. I just noticed that I posted somewhat more than the usual nonsensicality above and on the wrong thread. Pardon me.

Your 'cused olden Rabbit....a flashback from those golden days? Not much interested in the nuts, bolts, innards, barrel markings and such....I'd rather know what door the gun is propped behind(barn, kitchen or mudroom). Orvis or Bean for that matter!

Well said, Lord Lowell - what of the surfacing of the "Black Invincible" from the depths of the Indiana hog country years ago? Quantum leaps were made by the quizzical, beard-tugging Amish who brought it out, a "fogotten relic" just now re-introduced into the stratosphere of the rare objects of desire. Said to be offered only because the up-and-coming "youngers" needed that extra 4 sections of black earth to churn for corn to feed the porkers. I always envisioned it hanging over the huge hearth, blackened by generations of smoke, while full-bellied elders puffed away on their Meerschaums after dinner and remembered grandpa's greatest shot on the mile-high honker. Like the Maltese Falcon, "no clumsy coat of cheap black enamel could hide the true treasure that lie underneath." What great fodder for the greedy after the obscure! KBM

Provenance from the heartland Ortolan - what a grand picture you paint! A gun can absorb the home and it's people.

You mean to say everyone doesn't black their gun along with their stove?
