The Lefever forum ( http://lefeverforum.informe.com/index.php) is not functioning. Neither the administrator or I have enough computer savvy to be able to do much about it. We are looking for a sympathetic gun nut to help us restore the functionality of the forum. Please PM me if you can help.

Here's a link that will still get you to the Lefever Firearms Forum. It appears that the forum index has been locked. But starting from here, I was able to post a new thread as a test, and then delete it. PM sent. http://lefeverforum.informe.com/lefever-firearms-df3.html

Hi guys. ADG here. I'm the owner and one of the admins for the Lefever Forum site. I sent Dr. Bob those direct URLs to the sub-forums of the site that still reside on the Informe.com servers and Keith was kind enough to pass them along to you. To save me having to retype what I've sent to Dr. Bob and Keith, I'll just cut-and-paste this here:
"Yes, those spammers are definitely up to no good. However, we've been dealing with those idiots every day for the last seven years on the site. That's why we have the registration process set to only be fully active after an admin (myself or BirDogEd) approves the registration. So even though they show up as registered users they can't actually post or contact members to spam them. Ed and myself usually delete up to 20 spam accounts per day. That's one reason we've been able to withstand their attacks for so long. Clicking on their link WOULD send you to the darker regions of the web so DO NOT DO IT!
I'm afraid what has happened is that the hosting outfit, Informe.com, has finally either given up and folded or has locked a lot of their client's websites. This weekend we had an unprecedented number of spambots trying to sign up, so perhaps this was a precautionary measure taken by Informe. However, it's certainly possible that the spammers have won, and one has gotten past our vetting process and has been able to gain some sort of Administrative rights. All of the administration functionality has been locked, so Ed and I can't delete any of the spambots as is our normal routine. The index page has been reset to default so none of our sub-forums show up although they still exist on the servers and can be reached by using the little "Jump to: [Select a forum]" dropdown menu in the lower right-hand corner of some of the user links pages at the top of the index page. I can't download or back up any of the site either, so it's a real mess. I've noticed a number of the other websites on the Informe severs are down also.
I've contacted Informe but don't hold out much hope of any response. I believe the servers reside in Eastern Europe so that probably tells you something right there. This site was made with basically a canned template provided by Informe so all setup was done in the cloud. No php or MySQL databases that i can download now, at least none that I know of with my limited knowledge of how the back end of these things work.
Thanks for checking in.
Larry"
If in fact the site has been hacked and the spammer has been able to attain Admin rights he/she might be able to start spamming the registered/active members. I can't delete members from the Admin panel any more and I'm not sure if members can deactivate their accounts from their Users page. This is just another instance of greed and maliciousness screwing up a good thing. By the way, I used to post here under the user name "Doc Krantz" back in the day.

If someone was willing to take one for the team and try and delete your account, it would be most helpful in case the forum has indeed been totally compromised. I think I need to try and remain active for as long as possible or I would attempt it. At least if members can delete their accounts I can email them and let them know (all 1,079 of them.)

I just enrolled and it says
Your account has been created. However, this forum requires account activation by the administrator. An e-mail has been sent to them and you will be informed when your account has been activated
ADG or BirDogEd are the administrators??
AND the search functions seems to work fine for me
Mike

Hi, Mike. I did just receive an email stating that you had registered. Usually either myself or BirDogEd would activate the account. The distressing thing is that the last 3 obvious spambots that registered today did not trigger an email to me, so I can only assume that someone/thing has been intercepting those registrants and activating them - Ed and I are not activating ANYTHING at this point. I won't activate your account either, so if you ARE activated it won't have been by me or Ed.
Since I assume you are new to the Lefever Forum, it used to be that anyone could see all our various subforums on the index page. Now you only see a generic "The Lefever Forum - General" link that leads nowhere. However, as you've found out the search function is still active. All our various posts, etc still live on the Informe.com servers but just can't be accessed from the index page. Additionally all of mine and Ed's administrative panels (hidden from regular users behind a password) are no longer functioning so we can't delete the spambots.
It's also been verified by Keith that once you are an active member you can't delete your own profile. Only an admin can do that, and Ed and I don't have that ability any more. We're totally locked out.
Have tried unsuccessfully to contact Informe.com about the issue, even going so far as to threaten to pull EU Interpol into the matter (not that that probably scares Informe.com in the least. I believe their servers reside in Eastern Europe - whois.com shows them hiding behind a service provider in western USA.)

ADG and BirDogEd, please don't give up on your great site!
I probably look at it as often as this one, and perhaps have posted there a bit more often. Two great sites for the doublegun community, and I hope someone can help you get back full function. I've used the "Posted since your last visit" and "Search" to look around in the past few days.
