I'm looking at an Italian shotgun that is marked Inc. (which I believe to be an abbreviation for "engraved by") G. Bertol with some additional letters concealed by the trigger guard in the photo I've been provided.
Can anyone identify this engraver? The gun dates from the 1990s.
Thanks.

Inc. is Italian abbreviation for 'Incisore' Metal Engraver in this instance,,can be used for a wood or stone carver too. (Sometimes used to just describe a graver tool)
I don't recognize the name right off hand. I'll look thru some of my books and see what I can find.

Thanks very much. If it helps, the gun is a V. Bernardelli.

I'd suspect that the name should be "Bertoli" with an "I" at the end. I lived in Rome for 5 years and at one time my Italian was quite good. That name of course reminds of Gino Bartali, the famous Italian bicycle racer of the 1930's-50's. He and Fausto Copi were huge sports stars. Bartali famously had a beautiful Franchi Imperiale Montecarlo 12 ga SxS that's now in a firearms collection in Italy. http://www.armietiro.it/il-tour-del-mitico-fucile-di-bartali-armi-5472

I've checked through the material I have and haven't come accross any name that might match up, sorry. Not the most thorough search I realize!, but sometimes obscure names are still to be found in print.
C. Roger Bleile who posts here (and with that as screen name) has done a huge amt of work compiling engravers historical & biographical info. He may have something on the person.
Sorry I couldn't help.

Thanks for trying. I'll wait to see if Mr. Bliele has any information.
