13/16 oz is about 383 grains on my powder scale. 383 ÷ 437.5 = .875 (7/8) 13/16 x 437.5 = 355 437.5 = grains per ounce You either need to re-check your math or your powder scale, that's a considerable error.

Anyone else see anything strange about those proofmarks? Crown over ML and acier special doesn't fit with German proofs, but they don't fit with French or Belgian either.

Oh, nothing weirdo here he just left out word 'Cockerill' and lady's head in an oval. It's more common to see 'Special Stahl Cockerill'. Nice "Germany/Belgium/Germany" Oreo cookie. Just get a good big pitchfork.......and dig in Larry!

He also has some "44 Gauge" sxs guns up for auction. I asked him how he knew they were 44 gauge, his answer "I purchased this gun as a 44 Gauge from a reputable gun shop years ago. It is not marked 44 gauge but it fits 44 special mag. shot shell ammo currently made by CCI."
So you expect him to be more knowledgeable about a 24ga?

Something is strange about the marks. Regarding German marks, 142/148 & 144/148 would be a plug gauge and right off I'm not familiar with it. Some Express rifles were in 24 bore(0.577 inch). But as far as the stamp being 14.2 mm would tilt toward a Belgian origin. Grundig(.. over u) I believe was a retailer in Dresden who dealt in dura-frame or alloy type lightweight frames. I would like to see a pic of the action and the marks to verify though.

I will try to get a picture of the gun when I get back from Alaska as my wife seems to have "hid" the camera. I have about three other guns I've promised to get picture of in the last five months. I do not know where she put the camera.
The spelling on the gun was Grundug. The owner suspects it was a "one off" gun or one from a small gunsmith. He is the third owner.
Did the Germans proof out of Country?

I would assume(remember don't assume) that it is a Belgian "knock-off", which they were well known for in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Theoretically speaking, one could have sent an arm to a proofhouse in Germany with charge and load specs(and appropriate funds) and if it survived, they would have stamped it. Actually, I believe it can be done today. The double may be a set of German barrels, an action from Bohemia and wood from Belgium. A photo will be reveal the answers.
