I recently exported a shotgun to the UK through a licensed exporter here in the states. The gun was pre-1898, which the exporter told me the UK also considers it an antique. So it was imported as an antique. It made it over there to the buyer with no issues. And to my knowledge he did not have to re-proof the gun. But, it was an english built gun and was originally proofed anyway.

Can't figure that one about the pin-fire, Damascus. As far as guns are concerned to be 'antique' here they have to be pre 1939, of obsolete calibre and not intended to be used. I have a couple of centre fire 24 bores that are pre 1939 and can be classed as antique and not needing a certificate to possess even though Fiocchi still make ammo in 24 bore. I do have them on certificate but only because I shoot them. I would like to know the maker of pin-fire cartridges in France; especially the cases for reloading. This is from Diggory's website: I don't think he'll mind me reproducing it. https://www.vintageguns.co.uk/articles/obsolete-calibre-list/ Lagopus.....

I think the position in the UK is that muzzle loading shotguns and firearms need not be licensed provided the owner has no intention of firing them and that there is no legal requirement for secure storage. However should the owner wish to use them they must be listed on his shotgun or firearm certificate and as a consequence stored securely. I think that is still the case but not 100 percent.

Hi Lagopus from the conversation that took place last year "Henry Krank" was selling pinfire cartridges. And as explained to me it is nothing to do with the guns age it is more that if ammunition is available and the owner wishes to use the gun, on certificate it must go. But another point was raised because the gun was used as a wall hanger it could be stolen during a burglary and it has the potential for use, in that there is a grain of truth. I could put up an argument but in the end who the hell wants to argue with big brother putting your head above the parapet and your hand in your pocket for cash to secure a pyric victory, for a not so valuable 12 bore pinfire wall hanger. As they say discretion is the better part of valour. So just for old times sake I put the gun back for the pictorial debut.
The only lessons in my life I truly did learn from where the ones I paid for!

I just read where a man in Germany has been arrested. it is believed he may have killed 20+ of his former co-workers by placing poison in there lunch. The poisons included lead, cadmium & another which I don't recall. They had all been presumed to have died of natural causes, their bodies may be exhumed to further determine their cause of death.

KY John -- Contact PDQ Freight in the UK. They specialize n export of guns from the UK and can help you to cut through the BS. You will need a licensed US importer. I used British Sporting Arms in the Northeast. Not so cheap, but they handled the transaction well.
Normally I would have used Harry Marx in California, but he advised me that he was having problems with US Customs in San Francisco and advised me to try another importer.

KY John, since others have mentioned names of exporters, get quotes from Greg Morleysmith on greg.morleysmith@chordline.co.uk and Michael Miller Arms & Armour on rfd@momiller.e7even.com before you leap.

just throw it in with one of my shipments, I can do it for way less than you can send a single gun, even an antique. No permit on this end and I reduce the price even more.

I think that Konor 3" has the correct assessment of the situation. If the owner of a BP percussion gun (antique) wishes to use it then the gun - must/should be recorded- on the owners' certificate. If it is being held as an antique, for display or whatever- IF not for use - then NO certification or restrictions apply. In this context I mean shotguns only. Antique pistols. revolvers, rifles, may - or may not be classified as firearms which must be registered on a certificate. There has been ongoing discussions among the bureaucratic/legalistic tyros as to which particular "antiques" should now be reclassified as potential "weapons". If you want a definite opinion may I suggest you contact Bill Harriman at BASC. By the way, what are you looking for in a small gauge shotgun?
