Dash 2 serial numbers in the Model 27 started in 1962. The N prefix was authorized in 1969 and began with N1, so your gun is well into the seventies, maybe later. The serial numbers were in sequence for all N frame guns, not just the Model 27. This information is from Jenks, and I hope I interpreted it correctly. I bought my first N frame in the mid sixties from the famous Kenny Haig, then owner of Front Royal Supply, a big VA S&W distributor. I wasn't quite old enough to do it, but Ken was a good friend and understood my need. I still have that great Model 28 for which I paid Mr. Haig the grand total of $69.00 brand new. Murphy
