I would like to know where this fine print is that some spoke about in regards to shipping gun. I ship items via UPS all the time with little or no problem. Maybe if you have a business account with the the situation that you spoke about does not apply. Please let me know where you found this info.
JOhn Go to UPS.COM and download the UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service. It's in there.

I'd also like to see the fine print. When I'm in a FedEx store and I insure a gun for 4K and I tell them it is a gun then they should tell me I can't get 4K in insurance. They never provide me with anything other than a reciept, no form nothing. Maybe it is different on the website but that's how it works in the store.
I haven't had problems with FedEx but I'm getting a little worried.

If they accept money for the insurance, they should be held to provide the coverage. I think there'd be a good case to be made that they'd have to pay out for a claim they accepted payment on.

Rob, I looked at the UPS terms and conditions section on limits of liability and didn't note a limit on firearm liability other than $5k for an internet booked shippment and $50k for a regular account client.

For your peace of mind why not go get the gun? I have shipped guns from $200.00 to $30,000.00 and can tell you that the more expensive the job the more sleep I loose in transit.

Recoil rob: You need to go back and re-read the UPS tariff guide it does not say that at all.

http://www.ups-scs.com/tools/terms/air_tc.pdf> UPS terms are under section XVI of the above document.. 'Terms of Liability'. They do not specificly mention firearms, but have an open ended group of items that they classify as extraordinary value. Artwork, jewelry, irreplaceable items... Max liability $500. Perhaps this is what is being refered to and they are dumping firearms into this catagory as an excuse to deny a claim

I've used them all and have found UPS and FedEx MUCH better than USPS ..... the exception has been with things sent to my PO Box. USPS has often left packages that require a signature on the doorstep of a NYC building ..... anyone willing to climb the front stoop had a freebe. On out bound I always went with what the buyer wanted ..... I pack everything by the "Football" method.... in as many layers of bubble wrap as it takes to allow the package to shaken and kicked without inside movement. For very breakable stuff I use a hard box within a cardboard box .... this combo will withstand all but being run over by a baggage tug on the tarmac. FedEx may have changed their rules .... but they paid an insurance clain to me of $1700. It was insured for $2500 as a retail value but the the items last appraisel was just about what they paid me. This was not a gun.

Because the cost of a round trip ticket from DSM to SEA is running right at $1k, and layover would just add to the cost. Time is critical, and worst of all - are the airlines really any better? It ain't carry on...

I suggest that you contact FEDEX and UPS. Ask them if they will insure a firearm for more than 500.00. If they say yes, ask if it sfor damage and or loss. If they still sya yes, Ask for it in writing and have them sign it. They wont do it.
