We will be having a federal election in a year. It's unlikely anything this draconian would be passed before the election. Possible but unlikely. It may turn into a campaign issue, one more thing to beat the Liberals about the head with during the campaign. We've already got the incredible mess they've made of the NAFTA negotiation. They've been so inept on that file it's beyond embarrassing.

I too take King's word that he did all he said. He said that he spoke at a meeting, but we'll never know just what he said, just as he would never tell us what he supposedly wrote to the NRA or Sen. John McCain (who also sided with the anti-gunners) All we can do there is consider the anti-gun sentiments King has posted here for years. And he said that his "gun club had the loudest voice in the province, led by a rural physician." I certainly believe that as well... but I am equally certain that King was no help, just as he has never been any help to anyone in the U.S. except those who wish to infringe upon the Rights of law abiding gun owners. King has called this deceptive writing style "the craft of journalism". Our pro-gun President Donald Trump calls it exactly what it is... Fake News. Here's the Father of Fake News again with more of his anti-gun rhetoric: The roots I'm comfortable with are the radical---"to get to the root of"---and that's Jesus's teaching. The shame is how far the Christian community has drifted from it. We act irrationally from fear when the Christian message is to fear not, even death itself. We call ourselves Christian nations and stockpile ammunition, need concealed carry to protect ourselves and a regulated militia without regulations to protect us from our own governments, abandoning Jesus's teaching to defend it. When a self-described Atheist starts invoking Christianity and the name of Jesus... watch out!

make it a crime to have a gun...and only criminals will have guns...who first said dat? Well Ed, it sure wasn't either you or your fellow anti-gun Troll, King Brown: as for the gun control issue...we are the only country in the world that seems to tolerate mass murder, in the name of an individual right...its about time that we as a society realize that we are over gunned with too many super dangerous weapons in the hands of too many super dangerous people... it is long past time to do as the rest of the civilized world has done and simply, disarm... Just think, your pal King has repeatedly seen your words calling for disarming law abiding citizens, yet he still says he has never seen any evidence of anti-gun sentiment here. ...Fifteen years of my almost daily visits here confirm there are no anti-gun members.... You two make quite a pair. Thanks for continuing to show us that we all need to be aware that there are conniving backstabbers, two-faced Judas's, and Trojan Horses in our ranks.

Canada's federal government is "studying" ban in cities of handguns and assault rifles. Canada's police chiefs are doing the same....
....There has been no organized national protest.... ....There's little interest now. I have no explanation for it.... ....why we're not at the barricades everywhere is a mystery to me.... King, I feel your pain. Just kidding, would you ever have dreamed so large as this fait accompli, achieved over so little time? I like how you frame the issue. Your elected officials can study to their heart's content, while one particular, agenda driven appointed 'police chief' can unilaterally impose to their heart's content, eh? Is it just me or are your pending 'tracing' regs, a back handed slap in the face of the 'registry' temporary victory? Maybe, your 'Canadian firearms advisory committee' dictates the talking points and scripts the media? Well, it's a good thing that we aren't one issue socialists, eh. What do you figure, is the concept of a uniquely Canadian culture down to its final hours?

We'll be around for a few more minutes, craig. Driving home from town today, I stopped by our gunshop to get the owner's take. He's as puzzled as I am and offered, gorblimey, the antis may have worn us out. "You can't fight government," he said.
It's as good an answer as I've had among those solicited. The federal government's intentions have been front-and-centre in media for the last six weeks. Trudeau announced he would take a position on control to reduce the violence on August 14. As Ed would say, zzz since.
Think of it: Not a peep on this forum noted for protecting gun rights from oldstarfire or any other Canadian, until I posted it. We've given a carte blanche to Ottawa to do what it wishes. Usually silence in these matters means approval to government. Everyone knows that.
