tom: and agreed, garland's nomination should have been given the traditional due process of advise and consent by the senate...to not do so set a bad example for future confirmation hearings...

however, if obama had negotiating skills, he could have at least tried to cut a deal with mcconnell...as history has proven obama is very lacking in the interpersonal skills necessary to turn ones enemies into ones friends, at least long enough to get them to do what you want...
