I'd like to get started reloading for some older doubles, and am looking for a light load to use.

Got a MEC 650 reloader. A couple hundred each of the Winchester FL low noise/recoil, STS and Federal papers - so these are the hulls to choose from.

Can anyone recommend a recipe, or site, to find low pressure load info.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

12 gauge low pressure loads are fairly common.

I'd suggest the Clay Buster Lightning wad - comes with a nice data sheet that includes many low pressure loads/low velocity/low recoil loads.

Norm,

I have been loading PB powered in Fed. hull at less than 5000 psi for years.

The IMR reload data handbook is avaible on line.

Hi Norm,
I'd suggest picking up the free loading booklets available from the powder mfgrs. Everybody has some LP loads. I like Nitro 100 for mine. My advice is to choose the least expensive powder that will do what you want, using the fewest grains. Powder charge weight figures into recoil. Less weight = less recoil. Fast burning vs. slow is not relevant, assuming the same velocity is attained. Best bet for safety is to not use any load data from any unofficial source without verifying it in the books first.

Hi, send me your email address and I will send you a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with 12 gauge loads from 7/8 oz to 1 1/4 oz, using various components with pressures from 5,000 psi to 8500 psi. I have sent this out several times to members of this BBS.

My email address is: jhaynes1@flash.net

I like the Clay Buster Lightning wads as well. I also use Solo 1000 and have used allot of Nitro 100. Yes, use the little booklets the powder companies put out and if you don't see what you like, call the powder companies or the wad companies. Because of space, they have more recipies than what show in the booklets.

Norm,

I have checked most common manuals. Check out IMR powders and the loading guide. It seems Federal hulls and IMR powders will deliver standard payloads to 1 1/4oz at velocities approaching 1300fps at less than 7500psi.

Something I learned searching that was the brand and type of hull makes a huge difference in pressures, all else staying the same. Who'd a thunk it?

Never change the listed load by using anything other than the exact components listed. Substituting wads, hulls or primers can make a load a vastly different one from one that you think it ought to be. A simple primer or wad change can add a extra 1,000 psi or more. Change the hull from a Federal paper based or all paper and the pressure can go up much more. Also note that primers have changed a lot over the years so do not use a 30 old year listed load with todays primers without contacting the powder manufactures. Most will give very sound advise just for the asking.
