PhysDoc,
Our prayers are with your daughter. When he was young, my son was stung by a Brown Recluse Spider, resulting in a spot similar to the one you described. The venom causes a type of blood poisoning that can't be effectively treated by home remedies; you and your wife did the correct and loving thing, taking her to the hospital. I know there is nothing worse than having a child( or grand child) in pain or sick and you can't do anything about it yourself. So, today is the day to be thankful for the people and Hospitals like Children's Mercy, Shriner's, and Saint Jude's; who sacrifice their own holidays to take care of our children. You can rest assured, your daughter will be well taken of, and will heal.

Miller, I've read that about supper and dinner before. At my house when growing up, it was lunch at noon and supper and dinner meant the same thing. Guess it's like soda or pop.Or,I knew a guy who called every pop a Coke. If he wanted a orange drink it was orange Coke. Doc, sorry about your little girl - hope she heals up real quick. To everyone and especially our service men and women have a safe Thanksgiving.

Paul;
In my part of the country, we didn't drink either soda or Pop, we drank Coke, that is until we began to become infused with Yankees.
Just to name a few others I have a Samsung "Frigidaire", a John Deere "Bush Hog", A Williams "Crescent Wrench" & a Rigid "Stillson" (pipe wrench).

Thanksgiving is going to be different today, my five year old Audrey is in Children's Mercy Hospital. Monday, my wife took her to her doctor, Audrey had what looked like bug bites on her legs. The doctor didn't think they were bug bites and asked for a followup visit on Wednesday, the spots had grown in size, and become hard and hot, some are about 2 inches in diameter. The doctor recommended she go to the emergency ward at Children's Mercy and they admitted her, they have her on antibiotics, but still have no idea what the cause of the spots are. My wife stayed with her during the night, while I looked after our son. Audrey doesn't seem to have
an uncontrollable fever or anything like that, and seems in good spirits. But it is a scary way to spend Thanksgiving.

Tell your doctor to start her on sodium ascorbate iv (vitamin C) asap. Cannot harm her in any way. Read Dr. Frank Levy's book "Primal Panacea" about the curative power of massive doses of vitamin C, the world's most powerful natural curative when given in large doses intravenously.

Thanksgiving came and went, it has been at my home for most of the last decade, and since my Dad and my buddy Carl have moved onto greener fields, just five people. It is still my favorite holiday.
Mom and my younger brother are both disabled, and it is actually getting to be a challenge for them to make the short drive, 10 miles or so, over.
I prefer the turkey grilled on a Weber charcoal grill equipped with a rotisserie, and lots of initial smoke from pear, apple, or hickory wood chips, with a little wild grape vines. Problem is, the company, Mom and brother, dont like smoked turkey.
I used this little Farberware electric to cook a 14 pound bird this year. It went very well, except, the little grille is getting old. The motor for the rotisserie stopped running mid way through, and my son took over as motor, while I ran out to the shop, knocked the little guy apart and found a pin for the gear train had moved out. Did a quick degrease, lube, and drifted the pin back in. That now worked perfect, but, during cooking, the center of gravity changed, and necessitated a counterweight, in this case a Vise Grips.
I hope everyone had a blessed and joy filled day.

Best,
Ted

Stan,
Love those photos of the big table and the blessing of a granddaughter. God is good.

Thanks for all who prayed and thought good thoughts for my daughter.
Hopefully she should be getting out of the hospital today. We got a diagnosis yesterday, they believe that she has something called erythema nodosum, it is an imflammation of the fat cells usually found on the shins and lower leg. I guess it is kind of rare. They will treat it with steroids initially
and then with Aleve to reduce the inflammation and it should go away with time. They don't know what causes it, but they believe there is a connection between strep, which my wife had a few weeks ago, or the antibiotics used to treat it. At the same time my wife had strep, my daughter had an ear infection and both received the same antibiotic.

So, while this Thanksgiving was spent in a hospital with my daughter,
I had much to be thankful for, including you guys. Thanks

Fred
