My wife and I bought this old Ansorg Landau double barreled gun from our neighbor for our son for Christmas. We have a few questions about it and wanted to share some pictures of it in hopes that some of the experts here could tell us more about the gun.

1. Would anyone know where we might look to acquire the missing left hammer for the gun, or where we might go to have a replacement hammer made if a replacement is unavailable?

2. Will the marks on the gun tell us where and when the gun was made?

3. Can we obtain ammunition for the gun and will it be safe to fire the gun?

4. Is it wise to clean this gun up, or should we leave it as-is?

5. Any idea what this gun might be worth? We could not find pictures of one like it on the internet and local gunshops/gunsmiths say they have never laid eyes on one before this one.

Thank you in advance for any information you can share with me.

Others who know more will chime in. It was made in Belgium and is a "Cape Gun". A cape gun is one rifle and one shotgun barrel. The shotgun barrel is a sixteen. I can't make out the rifle caliber. A lot of us shoot old guns like that and repairs can be made.

Can't really see the rifle calibre(360 BP Express - 9.3mm x ??) but a Belgian(Liege) sourced Cape gun on a Lefaucheux platform retailed by firearms merchant F. Ansorg Landau / Pfalz(Germany). He looks to have been active in the last 1/4 of the 19th Century.

My photo doesn't clearly show it, but I can see 'Cal 360' on the rifle barrel.

Yes, I see that when I enlarged it. 360 Express. Check the length.

Oh, and by the way, I count eight twists in the rifle bore if that makes any difference.
What length should I check. The barrel length?

Ah, there was an August Ansorg in Landau / Pfalz who was active post 1900 so he may have retailed it. I would assume he was the son of F. Ansorg.

Maybe that includes the throat? I'd say a chamber cast is in order.
