Some pigeon guns of that day had as long as 3 1/4" chambers. No reason to believe the 3" ones aren't original.

Except that they weren't marked in inches when that gun was made.

Write the check...

Keep in mind if its over 3 grande you can join the fool of a lifetime club

jOe, you know a lot about guns - and you are a contrarian who enjoys pricking balloons - both statements are true. In this case though you're wrong and are just tilting at windmills. I've posted two Reilly pigeon guns above both of which have 3" chambers, both made within a year of 24534:

This one 23355, Weight 8½lb., 14 3/8 in. pull (14& 1/8 in. stock), 32in. barrels, approx. 5/8 & ¾ choke, 3in. chambers, original black powder proof - London nitro reproof, advertised at the time as a "Best Gun" - sold 18 May 2017 for £ 4,750 (US$ 6,055) inc. premium:: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24227/lot/462/?category=list

This one 24365 has identical specs to 24534 with 31" Whitworth barrels, 3" chambers, black-powder proof, 7 lbs 10 oz, also advertised as a "Best Gun." It sold in August 2018 for £ 1,895 (and it apparently had some serious bore problems and a cracked wrist in the stock).

24534 is a fine gun in very good condition; it's worth what someone will pay for it and it is a true Pigeon gun from a company known for Pigeon guns.

They were marked but not with chamber length, the LC inside a diamond is proof for long chambers.

And it may well have been marked at 3" when submitted for reproof. I have spoken at length with the man who restored this gun from a "needy" state, when he purchased it from an estate in England. He is an active pigeon shooter who prefers hammerguns. He does not think it is overpriced at all. I disagree, to some extent, based on my criteria, which may be different from his.

Regardless the originality of the gun's chamber length, we all know that the Briley thin walls aren't original, so the value comes down more to what is it worth to someone to use for an intended purpose, than how original it is. jOe's valuation of $3000 does not consider what it would cost to reproduce this gun today. What I mean is, how much would it cost to have a gun made exactly like this, for someone who would want it? jOe doesn't want it, and doesn't want one like it. That's obvious. But, just try having this gun reproduced for $3000. See how far you get.

And, the stock is most likely original. The man who restored it believes it is, as he did not restock the gun.

No way I know of to reproduce something that has about 130 years of wear and tear....no one denighs a new gun would cost more but we ain't talking new and we ain't talking top tier maker.

Ps...I just checked the pecker gnat gun dealer has the trap baited up for you Stan...it's went from 14 grande down to a little over 8 grande....better stick your foot in the trap and hang on.

Is like to see Rocketmans evaluation of this specimen...
