Back to wood:

About the best Ive got. Not the show piece that some guys have on their guns, but, I selected it, with input from the maker on the requirements of what I wanted on the gun. I told him I wanted a little thinner wrist than is typical, an idea he was a bit dubious about, but, he didnt own a pair of gloves, and it is -30 here, today.
He said this piece was the best in the shop for strength, beauty, age, and stability.
It was built to fit me, cast to fit me, and had the configuration and sling that I wanted put on. Then, the restocked gun went in a case, and came home from France with me.

It didnt seem like a big deal at the time, but, I came to understand just how hard it was for anyone to pull that off, years after I did it. I was very lucky to have been in a place to do so.

Best,
Ted
