Brian...
Here is what someone posted on another forum.
Wintergreen is part of a large farm that raises/supplies Bobwhites for hunting preserves. It appeared that Wintergreen has three hunting areas. Each area is about 30 or 40 acres. The areas are thinned pine woods that are burned annually. Broom straw, partridge pea and lespedeza mixed in the pine. Same habitat as found on the Georgia Quail Plantations.
This is a put and take hunt. You pay for birds released. Birds are released prior to your arrival. Someone takes you to your hunting area and explains your boundaries and in my case left to hunt on my own. I was the only person hunting without a guide and his dogs.
Birds appear to to have been released in pairs. The most birds I found together was one group of three and another of four. Other than that singles and pairs. The bird quality is exceptional. All clean fast flushes. Birds are as good as or better that many high dollar Plantations.
I have hunted a number of Quail Plantations in Georgia and Florida.
Those places have the lodges, the fine dining, the mule wagons and the birds are in covies. But those covies are usually only 4 to 6 birds. Wintergreen does not offer those amenities. It's also not $1000/day.
Also on those Plantations if you take away the wagon ride to the bird field your still only hunting 30 or 40 acres.
Anyway. Wintergreen is exactly what I was looking for. Good cover, good birds and hunting my own dog. Only problem is it's not closer to my summer or winter homes, as I will be returning.
