Nr. 300846, I too concur that the mark is that of an English speaking maker or import/exporter since it reads "Trademark". Did Lang ever have such?

Raimey, prompted by your post I had anoother look under Lang and first James Lang entry in Holt's archive gives me this :JAMES LANG
AN 8-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 10283,
30in. black powder only fine damascus barrels (shortened, some internal pitting), rib engraved 'JAMES LANG. 18 BROOK STREET. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', treble-grip action with carved percussion fences, Jones patent rotary underlever, rebounding back-action locks, border engraving, the action flats, fore-end iron and barrel flats with the crossed gun James Lang trade mark, some external patination overall, 14 1/2in. semi-pistolgrip stock including 1 1/8in. wooden extension, weight 11lb. 15oz.

I looked at this yesterday and was concentrating on looking for the trade mark and not reading the description. Sad old Scots git blush

300, maybe the barely discernable letters in the middle are a combination of J and L? Awesome fine on the listing- I've seen that listing but never saw that part either!

James Lang, 18 Brook Street, New Bond Street, London - Trademark with possible JL between the crossed longarm arms. So does that also apply to the JL on the tubes?

"He set up on his own at 33 New Bond Street in 1887 after working for his father at Joseph Lang and then Joseph Lang & Son. He moved to 18 Brook Street in 1888 till 90 and to 102 New Bond St in 1891-93. Gun No: 10602 dates from 1893."

"He later entered into a partnership with Hussey to form Lang & Hussey; which turned out not to be a good move, as Hussey was found to be selling off stock privately and pockerting the proceeds. Later, taken over by his brother (also Joseph) who continued to trade under the Joseph Lang & son name."

Anyone have additional info or reference for James Lang?

Appreciate you adding to my vocab. So I assume the Scottish term >>git<< is similar to wanker but a bit less offensive?

Also for you Scots, & I'll be more than happy to kickoff a singular thread, but have any of you knowledge of Buchan Guns, Ltd of Longside, Scotland. It is a new upstart & I spoke at length w/ Grant Buchan about his enroads into gunmaking @ the recent Dallas show. I told him I tipped my hat to him for his efforts into doublegun making @ this juncture but that he may have a "tough row to hoe."
