Similar to BSA but not quite! Thats what I thought. I have found 5 slightly different BSA logos and this is not one of them (even if that 3rd gun was there). I note also the JL mark on the tubes.

Here is a pic of the ledger... I'm still trying to figure out the "Wherefrom" heading... where or who is Philipson Ford?

Its a verylong shot (no pun intended) but William Philipson was a gun action maker of some repute. His Company eventually became Philipson & Nephew Ltd and I have had a few modern guns made on their action. The Ford part could well be William Ford who were the go-to people for quality barrel boring. Both of these individuals were in business in Birminham during the relevant period.

three rifles. the middle one is hard to see, it is the BSA trade mark. Birmingham Small Arms. BSA trade mark is three muskets with bayonets. This guess isn't even close.

The stamp on my double doesn't have any bayonets on the guns, and the one on the left appears to have an external hammer. I sure don't see any signs of a gun in the middle either. Perhaps BSA changed logos over the years. Thanks 300846, I will look into that firm and see what I can find

I've seen similar on German guns but I don't see any reason for it to be anything other than British. Maybe it is an importer/exporter stamp? Any idea if it left Britain bound to the U.S. of A. or similar? Any history?
Cheers,

Raimey rse It was in Australia until about 4 years ago when it was imported to the US. Perhaps an import mark... but why "trade mark" then I wonder? What about German sourced tubes, such as Krupp? Krupp is three intertwined rings though

Nah, not any Krupp steel stamp of which I am aware. And I don't recognize it as any other steel type either. I'd look toward an import/export house in Australia?
Cheers,

You know, there looks to be a >>L<<, or possibly a >>T<< at the base between the longarms? Cheers, Raimey rse

I am 99% sure on the Philipson and William Ford connection. However I can not find any Wm Ford trademark, far less one similiar to yours. I have a few bits of correspondence from people who shared Ford's Price Street premises but nothing from the Ford outfit. The late Geoffrey Boothroyd spoke to me a long time ago about trying to list and illustrate all the trade marks that were known but I don't think anything came of it.He did show trade marks in at least one book, can't recall which one and all my Boothroyd stuff has been passed on.
